"Can I Give It Six Stars? Seven? Awesome Guitar Toy! Can I give it six stars?! Hands down the best birthday present my 12-year-old got. His 16-year-old brother loves it too. It feels great in the hands, with a nice heft, and shiny smooth "frets" and "strings" that work like touch pads -- no buttons, just touch. NICE.
It’s educational, creative, and an awful lot of toy for not much money. BIG hit. Hasbro Power Tour Electric Guitar plays in several modes, you can play it like a regular guitar, or play along with your MP3 player plugged into the guitar, or do the fun exercises included in the guitar’s pre-programmed tracks.
It has a fabulous real guitar sound, very loud, we have to keep telling him "Turn it down!" You don’t actually need the amp they sell separately, but I think the grandparents are buying that for Xmas next. He will love that too."
"Very cool toy, if you don’t mind some noise. I have been playing electric guitar for over 20 years. This lil toy is a GREAT place to get kids started. It looks like a mini Gibson SG and approximates strumming, hammer ons, pull ofs and chord changes. If a kid gets good at playing along to the songs, I feel that they could easily be shown how to play those same songs on a real guitar. It IS a little noisy and if your kid likes to just sort of free form and noodle along with songs, it could give you a headache. Make them use the enclosed DVD and they will come around though."
"Really cool musical toy. This is a really cool electronic instrument. You actually will learn something about musical scales (There are 12 notes that you can play on the fret board...all the notes of a chromatic scale) If you want to play rock, you’re all set...power chords all the way.
The guitar has a few modes...(1) playing (2) jamming with external audio (3) ’simon"-esque mode where you follow a pattern that the guitar shows you and (4) ’visualization mode’ (you plug in a music source and the fretboard animates to the music while the guitar’s speaker plays the audio)
You can also choose a different styles for the guitar so the notes you play will sound different (ex: with distortion, or echo, etc.) I find some of the mode to sound very similar.
Overall, it’s a great piece of technology for a good price."
"Great product, great fun! We bought this for our 8 year old son and he loves it! Its durable and has great songs and is so much fun..I recommend this to any parent, even my 5 year old daughter loves this!"
"I Can’t Put It Down. The stated recommended age for this product is 10-15 years of age. Try doubling that. Or even tripling it. For anyone who ever wanted to be a rock star, this is for you. I couldn’t put it down. And when I finally did, I found myself picking it back up again. My only gripe is that since it’s made for kids, it’s a little small for an adult. (But it doesn’t affect my overall rating of excellent.) If you have friends like mine, there’s a whole late teen/adult demographic out there who would love this thing. For fans of "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" the Hasbro Power Tour Electric Guitar is a must-have. Just read the rest of the reviews and buy it. You won’t be sorry."
