Travel Toys

• ★ The best travel toys are quiet, compact, clean and have a small number of components.
• ★ Create a travel pack for each child that contains some new toys and some old favorites.
• ★ Choose some that will challenge and others that will sooth when frustrated or tired.
• ★ Add in a few healthy snacks and some water and you’re ready to go!

This is a great time to encourage hand eye co-ordination. Coloring books and pens are great. As are sticker books, activity books with dot-to-dot games and mazes, jacks, magnetic sketchers and blank writing pads for playing hangman and tic tac toe.

Stock up on travel games. They can be for solo or group play.

Consider Travel Hangman, magnetic chess or checkers, Sudoku, Travel Bingo, Memory Games, Blink, Rush Hour, Soundblast, or time travel while you travel with Chrononauts. And several packs of cards!

Toys that calm are important such as puzzles and books. Combine these with relaxing music.

Consider bringing an iPod loaded with audio books, short stories and songs.

For your destination remember action toys so kids can burn off the energy that has been building up during travel time sitting. Jump ropes, inflatable balls and frisbees all fold up into the luggage. Compact games books, such as The Pocket Guide to Games can be really helpful on rainy days when you’re stuck for ideas.
